Sustainability and the Changing Shipping Finance Landscape
Presentation from Ms. Katerina Stathopoulou, FICS, Executive Director with Investments & Finance Ltd
On 25th February 2022, Cyprus Marine Club held its first event of 2022, having an honor to host Ms. Katerina Stathopoulou, FICS, Executive Director with Investments & Finance Ltd.
The company is a financial consultancy firm dedicated to providing financial and investment banking advisory services to shipping and corporate clients.
Ms. Stathopoulou has a total working experience of 40 years of which 36 years have been in managerial positions in the fields of Shipping, Banking, and Finance.
Her career in shipping started in 1986 with Athenian Sea Carriers, one of the prestigious Greek Shipping Groups, and continued into Banking as Head of Shipping Finance for two Greek private Banks, responsible for developing their shipping portfolios.
Ms. Stathopoulou is a Jury Expert with the European Commission on Blue Economy and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers. She is also Governor of the International Propeller Club Port of Piraeus, Mentor and a Clinical Professor on the MSc in Shipping Management program of the University of Piraeus, Lecturer on Shipping Finance at the Greek Branch of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, and DNV Trainer.
Ms. Stathopoulou delighted Members with a presentation about the history of Shipping Finance. She showcased the Bank availability of loans over time to the shipping industry and discussed Poseidon Principles, Environmental and Sustainable Finance regulations. Capital Markets and Alternative Sources of Finance were also presented. The presentation was informative and interesting, making the audience reach the conclusion that the Shipping Finance Landscape has changed, and the Shipping Industry must adapt accordingly in order to be Sustainable.
Capt. Koch has started his welcome speech by sharing his deep concerns and hopes for the soonest reinstatement of peace in Ukraine nation who has been defending so heroically its liberty and fighting so fiercely for its democracy.
President welcomed and thanked members and sent special words of appreciation to the Club’s annual sponsors thanks to whom the Club can keep up the highest standards of events.
The Presidentshared membership numbers (130 on the day) and announced the next events on: on 22nd March 2022 – a panel created/moderated by Ms. Muriel Matta entitled:- “LIFE REDEFINED: A HOPEFUL POST- PANDEMIC FUTURE”; on 8th April 2022 – a Gala Dinner and on 19th April – a Cyber Security presentation by Tototheo Maritime.
