“No words will describe my gratitude to you all, the loyal and supportive members, who are here with us every month and consider the Club their home and we too consider you our family members. Your amazing, positive, supporting remarks I have been receiving after each event are giving me the power needed to be at the helm of this prestigious Club and to keep its level high”

Capt. E. Koch further reminded us about the Club’s next events scheduled for 2025, starting with the New Year’s Eve Gala on January 17th (to see the full schedule please visit our website@ www. cyprusmarineclub.org.cy).
After the President’s speech followed by Christmas wishes, the speaker of the evening, Julian Bray, delved into the dynamic and challenging era facing the global shipping industry.
“We’re living through a period dominated by the disruption caused by wars, pandemics and droughts, rising complexity with new technologies, regulations and market demands, and then, of course, the ‘green transition’ with the need to increase efficiency, cut pollution and lift sustainability,” Mr Bray said.
As a business journalist who has made a specialism in shipping for over 30 years, he also reflected on shipping’s public face, how it is reported by the media and the implications of how electronic communication is making the industry’s performance transparent in ways never previously envisioned.
The thought-provoking speech from Mr Bray brought further fascinating conversations among an enthusiastic audience, who explored interesting topics with our speaker and continued sharing their thoughts during the cocktail reception.
After studying at Manchester University, Julian embarked on a career in business journalism that has seen him work for daily newspapers, magazines, and news agencies, including as a business correspondent for Reuters and as Editor of Lloyd’s List for eight years.
TradeWinds is owned by Norway’s DN Media Group, publisher of the financial daily Dagens Naeringsliv, and energy titles Upstream, Recharge and Hydrogen Insight, for which Mr Bray is the Publisher.
