23rd July 2019, Presentation by
Mrs. Despina Panayiotou Theodosiou,
CEO at Tototheo Group, President WISTA International

Cyprus Marine Club held a very delightful Summer Event with presentation by Mrs. Despina Panayiotou Theodosiou -entitled: DIVERSITY and SUSTAINABILITY AS DRIVERS OF CHANGE.

Despina Panayiotou Theodosiou is Chief Executive Officer of TOTOTHEO MARITIME, a leading global supplier of equipment and services for satellite and radio communications as well as bridge navigation systems, automated applications, ship repairs and operational efficiency solutions.
Despina is President of WISTA International and board member of various organizations like the Cyprus Shipping Chamber, the Cyprus Maritime Academy etc.

Leading international shipping publication Lloyd’s List selected Despina as one of the Top 100 Most In-fluential people in shipping in 2018 and she attained a further credit as one of Lloyd’s List’s Top 5 Next Generation executive.

She holds degrees from the National and Capodistrian University of Athens, the Copenhagen Business School and the University of Oxford – Said Business School.

According to Mrs. Theodosiou, for more sustainable shipping, the industry needs to change attitude; in-stead of considering that sustainability equals with profit, it should focus on understanding stakeholders’ concerns through constructive dialogues and enabling synergies. The industry has realized and accepted that Sustainability is about environmental sustainability and about economic sustainability.

Talking about the second key factor as driver of change, she stated that diversity brings an innovation and a better future for the industry; thus WISTA's goal is to continue building opportunities for women in mari-time, to create more inclusive and diverse shipping industry. Gender should not be a distinguishing factor in a world where both men and women receive equal opportunities to occupy managerial positions and are treated according to their skills, qualifications and performance. The leadership model is evolving, in an even faster pace (as everything in our society today) and this is also something to consider when selecting the next leaders for our organizations. This is what WISTA works toward, a shipping industry that is diverse, inclusive, minimizing the existing leadership gap and offering equal opportunities.

President of the Club, Capt. Koch updated his guests with the Club’s membership number (now 114 members), anticipated events in 2019 and after the presentation and vivid discussion, invited all to enjoy rich buffet during sunset at a Marina Beach Bar.

The Cyprus Marine Club is that embraces and encourages a plethora of maritime industry stakeholders for friendly membership. Ship Owners, Ship Managers, Crew Managers, Service Providers & Suppliers, Agents, Terminal Operators, Legal and Financial and more, come together with a focused effort to promote and celebrate the Cyprus maritime industry and share experiences.
